Happy New Year.
My first post of the year, I would like to get a few things off my chest, ie I’m going to rant about what I find annoying.
I would write more posts if WordPress would allow me to keep the font I choose and not have to write an HTML code every paragraph or when I hit return. This is so annoying and their answer is upgrade and you can choose whatever font you like. Also, they have a tendency to lose the post, so now I write it first in word and copy and paste. Also annoying.
I read a lot of blogs, some supposedly written by people with journalism degrees. If this is so, there is something wrong with the curriculum as 9 out of 10 of the bloggers I read DO NOT KNOW HOW TO USE PRONOUNS. This bugs me so much that I have been known to not read the post and unsubscribe. I will give you all a simple trick so that you know when to use the correct personal pronoun. For example, ‘Tom and I are going to the shops.’ If you removed ‘Tom’ from the sentence you would write/say ‘I am going to the shops.’ Easy, yes? Now, ‘The shops were too crowded for Tom and me so we went home.’ Most of these so called journalists would use ‘I’ in place of ‘me’. Again, remove ‘Tom’ from the sentence and it is bleeding obvious that ‘me’ is correct. You wouldn’t say/write ‘The shops were too crowded for I’, would you? Would you?
I understand that bloggers would like to make money from their sites, but sometimes all their posts are sponsored or ‘gifted’ product. There is no way that you are getting an unbiased opinion if the blogger is getting paid for free stuff/experiences. I like an unbiased opinion before I try/buy something. One recent example was from a blogger that I read on a regular basis who posted on a day spa and actually said she felt rushed by the therapist. This would not have happened had the post been complimentary.
The more we pay in Australia for everything even our own Aus made products. This has been a bug bear of mine for years. I happily shop online overseas and cop the postage (if it’s not too outrageous), but then the stores open shops here and you can no longer shop online and the prices here are double, sometimes triple and more, of the overseas price. Sephora is a recent case, they promised that they would bring product to Australia at US prices and they haven’t. I know that we don’t have the population of the US or Europe but really, we are a small market and they can certainly afford to accommodate us. Zara, H&M, Sephora and Forever 21, all dearer than the US stores. And, by the way, what is it with Zara and the sizing? Are we part of the Asian demographic and everything is geared to that sizing? I’m a standard size Australian 10 in bottoms and maybe a 12 in tops if they are the cheap end of the market. But nothing in Zara fits me unless it’s an XL in tops. What bigger people do, I have no idea. They do have nice bags, though.
I’m sure that I could find more to rant about but I’ll leave it at that for now.
I hope that you had a happy Xmas and New Year and that 2015 is all that you want it to be.
